The sugar Act of 1764 was a tax on sugar. The Sugar act decreased the tax to 3 pence (http://www.ushistory.org/declaration/related/sugaract.htm). The british Parliament created the sugar act because england needed more money to repay old war bills (http://www.ushistory.org/declaration/related/sugaract.htm). Many colonists didnt agree with this act because they were not part of england anymore and should not have to pay for their bills.
