The American revolution ended because of the declaration of independence. more and more americans wanted their independence from the british. Thomas jefferson, benjamin franklin, and john adams started to think about the intentions of writing the declaration of independence (http://www.history.com/topics/american-revolution/declaration-of-independence). Benjamin Franklin wrote the declaration of independence and the rest of congress signed it on July 4, 1776.
